  • When your child is upset, does a familiar friendly voice usually help them calm down?

  • Does your child go still or pause what they are doing when they hear an unusual sound?

  • When your child is awake and someone nearby is talking, do they look towards that person?

  • Does your child look at the face of the person who is talking to them?

  • Does your child turn both head and eyes towards a new sound or voice?

  • Does your child notice a nearby person talking, even when the talk is not aimed at them?

  • Does your child react differently to a gentle voice than to a cross or loud one?

  • When someone speaks in a normal voice, does your child usually look over and smile?
